Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Uganda's gorilla trekking paradise, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

About Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of Africa's most important conservation areas and home to approximately half of the world's mountain gorillas. This UNESCO World Heritage Site protects 331 square kilometers of dense tropical rainforest in southwestern Uganda.

The park's main attraction is gorilla trekking, hiking through dense forest to spend an hour with a habituated gorilla family. This is widely regarded as one of Africa's most profound wildlife experiences.

Beyond gorillas, Bwindi hosts over 350 bird species, chimpanzees, forest elephants, and an incredible diversity of butterflies and plants. The forest is one of the most biologically diverse areas in Africa.

Bwindi's gorilla conservation model has become a global success story. Revenue from gorilla permits directly supports local communities and conservation efforts, creating a sustainable model for wildlife protection.
